“Where do you think we’ll be?” Brendon asks. “Not in like, five or ten years but like… twenty. Thirty.”

Ryan shrugs. “It’d be easy to say we’ll still be in the band, but it’s not like a bunch of senior citizens are gonna bring in too many crowds.”

“Yeah,” Brendon chuckles. “But it’s weird, ‘cause at the same time, I can’t imagine us not making music together, all of us. I can’t imagine us not being in each other’s lives.”

“We will be,” Ryan says, and it’s the surest Brendon’s ever heard his voice since the night he looked into Pete’s eyes and assured him, yes, he wanted this. After a moment he pokes at Brendon’s arm.

“I think we can cross Paris off the list,” Spencer says, looking around. Over the tops of buildings, he can see the point of the Eiffel Tower again.

“It’s not just a list, you know,” Jon says, turning around in the sunset and staring up at the statue. “It’s a life, Spence. It’s Ryan’s life and we’re finishing it for him.”

Spencer knows that, he does, he just doesn’t feel like it sometimes.

“Come here,” Jon says, holding out a hand, and Spencer is confused. He waits too long and Jon gives him a look, still holding out his hand. In the end, Spencer takes it, and Jon pulls him in closer, hand on his waist and a smile on his face. “Let’s dance, Spencer Smith.”

“Jon,” Spencer murmurs as they waltz and the sun sets behind them, the lights in the fountain flickering on.

“We can cross this off the list too,” Jon replies quietly, and Spencer shuts his mouth and lets Jon waltz them into the night.

jon and spencer are finishing ryan’s bucket list now that’s he’s dead and im like legit crying over this
